Arrest

At this early stage, law enforcement is often still gathering evidence against the accused.  It is important to have an attorney to consult with in order to avoid irreparable damage to your defense.

02
charges

Once the prosecuting attorney has filed charges, a bond may be set, and the accused will be required to attend all court proceedings until the case has been resolved.  If an attorney is not hired, a public defender may be appointed.

03
Court appearances

During this phase of the process, an attorney will analyze the evidence and the facts of the case in order to determine the best outcome.  In order to accomplish this, certain motions may need to be filed, or hearings held in order to contest evidence.  Often times plea negotiations will occur between your attorney and the prosecuting attorney.  At this stage, preparation for a jury trial will also be done.
